I dropped the bike today at my freundliche. The following mods to take place :

New horn. It'll be the pre january 2006 horn of the RT

Adding Hyperlites LED blinking brakelights. Not TUV approved but I don't care, I'm Belgian and the bike is Belgian registered. No TUV here. They really ARE attention grabbers.

Putting transparent, protective thick foil on the side cases and the side of the petrol tank.

For the rest, she'll remain absolutely standard for now. I do wish to know wether anyone has come with a good aftermarket heated seat for the GT yet.

On another tack altogether, they gave me an R1200GS as a loaner. God this bike is FUN !!! Thank god, too little money to buy one, too little place in the garage to park it.

Ciao Eberhard,

I haven't gotten the bike back yet. I was in Schleswig-Holstein all day today, and then proeceeded to fly to Hildesheim to briefly meet with a very good friend of mine.

I was told that the horn would be mounted under the right hand side of the fairing.

Peppi the Beast is back.

The new horn is installed under the LEFT hand side of the fairing. Just above the ABS module it seems. I have not seen it. One thing I know, is that is works. On my way back, there was a stupid cager -I won't say it, but it was a woman- suddenly coming on the road and staying blocked. I used the horn. She jumped so high, I think she hit her head. I think she's still looking for the truck....

The horn is the pre January 06 horn of the R 1200 RT so there are no CanBus issues.

Also installed next to the seat lock are the Hyperlites. Two blocks of 16 LED's that blink when you brake. Attention grabbers for cagers. Since the GT sports a brake light with a single filament, the Hyperlites glow permanently, and the glow intensifies when braking.

The transparent protective foil has been put on the cases and the sides of the tank. It's totally invisible. If you don't know it's there, you can't notice it.

Protective foil?

I am still a bit sceptical. I've seen the demo's on (new) bike, but can they guarantee it will not turn yellow in 2 years and/or can still be removed?

I don't see why it couldn't be removed. I guess it's just a question of warming it up a bit and removing it. Any good hairdrier should do. Then you go over the surface with methanol, it doesn't affect the paint, just removes the glue.

Hmmmm, makes sence.
On the other hand the sidepanels on the tank, are these better scratch resistant than a coated tank itself?
Normally you notice when you've done 50k on the side of the tank.
