Help me make a decision ?

With almost 8000 KM on the GT, and the weather as it is now, I'm still hesitating to take it to Croatia on Friday. Not that the bike can't do it, it's an easy thing for it. It is ME who is scared of the heat. I called the island this morning at 0830 and it was already 33° . Temps in the afternoon reach in the 40°'s.

The forecast is for thunderstorms with hail on Friday and temps dropping by 10-12° C here. I'm supposed to be in the area of Bad Aibling on Friday. Will stay there till Monday and ride to Lubljana. Stay there for three nights, and then to Plitvice for two days. After that, Zadar and Ugljan Island.

It's mostly boring motorways to get there, and my wife and children are by car. The return trip would be via the Alps till either Switzerland or France.

The bike is getting serviced tomorrow after I'll have new tires put on it in the early morning. As far as that is concerned, the bike will be all ready to go. It's ME who is the problem....

Hi Caratz

This is my opinion:

If u are traveling with your children and wife, it is your job to keep the family (within you) in best condition. Take your car. let the bike at home.....
My be its to late to shift your bike(+ car) to a mtarail-train?!?!?
have a look here

I actually forgot to mention that my wife and children have already left Antwerp last week with my wife's car. They are in Hungary visiting my mom in law. Having two cars around would be a bit crazy. She already has the biggest part of my luggage with her.

I actually spoke to her and she says to take the bike. The longest single day drive will be on Friday, from Antwerp to Bad Aibling. From there to Lubljana it's about 400 KM, and the rest of the distance to be split in two different rides/drives is not much more. The heat worries me the most.

Final decision time is tomorrow evening....

Hi Caratz,

we visit Slowenia 4 weeks ago. Coming from Graz, I have been in Maribor, Ljubliana and at last in Piran.

There is no Problem on the seaside, always a low fresh wind. But in the countryside, the so called "Karst-Area" , was a very dry heat. Also on the motorway, it was very hot, but in the cities in front of the trafficlights, it was an incredible heat.

We reach better conditions on the way home about 50 km in the north of Triest, going up to te hills.

have a nice Trip :D (or not) :(

That is what I call input. This morning, after puttiing the Metzelers on the bike, I went to my freundliche to drop it for a premature 10000 km service. I bought a pair of airflow boots and rode back to the city with them on. The perceived heat is a lot less.

Now provided they don't find anything grievously wrong with the bike when they put it on the computer, it's going to be a ride. There is something definitely wrong with the motor management. I have a dead hole between RPM 1500 to 2500, like hiccups, nothing and then she takes off. At idle, it really wasn't smooth. I am keeping my fingers crossed here.

I have had a pretty good time so far. Rode to Bad Aibling on Friday, leaving home at 0500 and getting there at 1530. Wife and kids arrived about an hour later.

Stayed there for three days, leaving Monday morning for Ljubljana where I'm at right now. Thanks for pushing me to do it.

No problems on the rides, but the big topcase is really affecting stability.

So far, so good....

hmmmm,
At what speeds, is it a slow weave which is appearing at a certain speed=
I had that with my previous bikes as well, but depending on many factors.
and usually not completely solvable.

Any possibility to swap some heavy parts out of topcase in the tankcase, sounds straight forward.
I recall you have ESA, tried also with setting for duo passenger as a comparison.

The bike is fairly lightly loaded as all of my luggage is travelling by car. Hoyever, I have moved my locks to the sidecases from the topcase. Makes a difference, but it is stil weaving.

Meanwhile, I have ridden from Bad Aibling to Ljubljana and from there to Plitvica in Croatia. Bike feels ok so far. Tomorrow onwards to Zadar, the end destination. Return route will be Italy and the Alps, provided everything goes according to plan.

Did anyone of you ever try using a Croatian keyboard ? žžšš Interesting to sazy the least,

Back home. The problem with the weaving was solved to a large extent by ESA'ing the suspension to "sport".

I know, I'm stupid, but when I'm on vacation, my brain is too. :D

Reading the reports about the new software version, I'm starting to wonder if it's such a good idea to install it.....
