Octane questions.

While I was on the way back from Croatia, I had to tank twice with 95 octane super. There was no Superplus/power 98 octane available, and there was no other petrol station around. No big deal, the engine didn't blink.

However, I ask myself the following question. In the U.S. the Premium is 94 Octane and yet their K's and R's get the full power of the engine. Why is it that in Europe we have to pay crazy prices for 98/100 octane, and get the very same HP as in the U.S. with 94 ?

Has anyone a good, simple explanation ?

Hi caratz

here the answer for your question!

In the US is a different counting method "R+M/2"

R=Research Octane
M=Motor Octane

US Method 99+89/2 = 94 Octane
Euro Method = 99 Octane
