factory installed alarm system: Philosophy

Beitragvon jan-caro » 24.06.2006, 22:50

I had opted for the factory installed BMW alarm system
Many functions are apperantly possible to program or to alter.
Current setting:
- Switch on with remote control. indicator lights flash (2x)
- when you return to the bike the ignition key will de-activate the alarm system.

On my previous bike (Yamaha FJR 1300A) i had an aftermarket (of coarse, on the Yaps you can ONLY order a different colour as option  ) alarm fitted (Red Alert) which worked completely opposite.

That system would switch the alarm system ON automatically 1 minute after ignition is switched off. (could be overrrided if required)
When returning to the bike the alarm needed to be deactivated with the remote control.

To me that philosophy had the following advantages:
- You don't need to worry about engaging the alarm, it switches on automatically.
- As I keep my ignition key separately from the RC, if one looses the ignition key, a finder of the key cannot start the bike as the alarm cannot be de-activated.

So what's the benefit of the BMW system??

With the alarm option on the K1200GT it is possible to turn on the alarms as soon ass You take out the key. You only have to change settings. You can always send me mail if You need to know how.

I confess not to have read the manual yet. I know, I'm nuts....
Whatever I needed to do, I read that part of the manual. Change the indicator light. Did it. Change the dimmer settings of the dashboard, did that one too, but I had to reset the clock. :D

Alarmanlage

Beitragvon Reinhard » 27.06.2006, 12:20

I'll take the manual out in the weekend to investigate a bit further, however if the system switches it off after some time to protect the battery, does it make any difference when enabeling the alarm is happening automatically?
